Barossa Basketball endorses the following code of behaviour for Officials in its basketball programs and requires all Officials participating in those programs to abide by this code.

The code is intended to assist everyone to obtain the maximum benefit and enjoyment from their involvement in basketball:

Officials' Code of Behaviour

Modify rules and regulations to match the skill levels and needs of children, to the extent permitted by the Association Playing By-Laws. Allow some leniency in rule interpretation to those apparently suffering physical difficulty.

Know the Rules and also the Association Playing By-laws  and implement them consistently and courteously.

Be consistent, objective and courteous when making decisions. Ensure that your decisions are fair and evenhanded.

Compliment and encourage all children. Make the effort to explain a violation to younger players when it is clear that they do not understand the reason for a call being made.

Condemn unsporting behaviour and promote respect for all opponents. Ensure that violent, dangerous or aggressive play, or abuse and harassment of players, is not permitted by players, coaches or spectators.

Emphasize the spirit of the game rather than errors.

Encourage and promote rule changes which make participation more enjoyable.

Be a good sport yourself. Actions speak louder than words.

Keep up to date with the latest trends in officiating and knowledge of growth and development of children.

Remember, you set an example. Your behaviour and comments should be positive and supportive.

Respect the rights, dignity and worth of all participants regardless of their gender, ability, cultural background or religion.

Comment Guidelines: The SportsTG Network is made up of players, families and passionate sports followers like you who have a strong opinion about sport. That's great - we want you to have your say and share your thoughts with the world. However, we have a few rules that you must follow to keep it fun for all. Please don't be rude, abusive, swear or vilify others. Apart from some pretty serious sport sanctions, we also can ban you and report you if things get out of hand. So play fair and have fun, and thanks for your contribution.
