Fury Hold Olympic To Stalemate

Northern Fury held Brisbane Olympic to a 0-0 stalemate at International Park on Saturday night.

Olympic are now in third position on 40 points, but were hoping to secure a top-four position before taking on top of the table Brisbane Strikers in the final round next week at Goodwin Park.

A win will keep Olympic in third place, while a draw will be enough to keep them in the top four, as their solid goal difference of +31 is too great for the potential threat of Moreton Bay.

If they lose, they are at risk of fourth placed Western Pride defeating Fury next week at Briggs Road Sporting Complex and moving ahead onto 41 points.

Moreton Bay could also move ahead onto 41 points with a vital win over Gold Coast City at Wolter Park next week, which would set Olympic back to fifth place.

Key Moments

10’ – CHANCE FOR FURY –  Hamish Cassady crosses the ball into the danger area which results in a goal-mouth scramble. Olympic defence manages to clear.

13’ – CHANCE FOR OLYMPIC – Nick Figg gives away a free-kick on the edge of the box. Joseph Simons tips the ball-in over the crossbar.

41’ – CHANCE FOR FURY -  Cassady beats a defender and shoots for the near post. Shot is blocked by Nicholas Mooney.

69’ – CHANCE FOR OLYMPIC – Olympic header forces Simons to make a reflex save.

77’ - CHANCE FOR OLYMPIC – Cross finds Daniel Byrne who shoots. Simons makes the save with his feet while scrambling across goal.
