Pride Fall To Mitchelton In Silver Boot

Words: Michael Flynn

Western Pride let slip a one goal lead to fall 2-1 to Mitchelton FC in their BLK Silver Boot pre-season match at Lions FC Stadium on Saturday.

Harrison Sawyer netted his fifth goal of the pre-season to give Pride the advantage early in the second half, however goals to Michael McGowan and Jay Mehmet saw Mitchelton reel in the PlayStation® 4 NPL Queensland club.

Both sides proved unable to take their chances in the first half, with Sawyer spurning a gilt-edged chance inside the opening fifteen minutes for Pride.

It would take until the second half for him to make amends, delivering a neat finish to open Pride’s account shortly after the restart.

Ten minutes later McGowan latched onto a long ball to draw Mitchelton level.

A hailstorm saw play delayed late in the half before Mehmet pounced in the final minutes to edge the Football Brisbane Trophy Superstore Premier League outfit ahead.

Pride continue their pre-season preparations against Lions FC at Briggs Road Complex on Tuesday night.

Western Pride FC  1 (Harrison SAWYER 47’)
Mitchelton FC  2 (Michael MCGOWAN 57’, Jay MEHMET 90’)
