FNQ FC Heat midfielder Zenon Caravella is set to return to the Hyundai A-League this summer after signing with Newcastle Jets for the 2014/2015 season.

Caravella returns to Newcastle after earlier this year being granted a release from the club in order to pursue endeavours outside of football in his hometown of Cairns.

Caravella said his time away from the professional game had given him a new outlook on life and renewed his desire to play at the top level of Australian football once again.

“My time away from professional football changed my perspective,” Caravella said.

“I want to do what I love and what I enjoy and that’s playing football at the highest level I can.

“I know most of the boys at the club and I know the city of Newcastle, so that will allow me to feel comfortable and settle in right away.

“I’m excited be back with the Newcastle Jets and I’m looking forward to the season ahead.”

Jets head coach Phil Stubbins said Jets were pleased to welcome Caravella back into its ranks.

“Zenon’s decision to come back to the Newcastle Jets is great news for us,” Stubbins.

“After speaking to the staff and people I respect in the game, I think Zenon will come in and enhance what we’re trying to do as a club this coming campaign.

“He’s someone who understands the landscape and everything associated with the Newcastle Jets, so hopefully we can embrace the qualities Zenon has to offer moving forward.”

Caravella has made 127 Hyundai A-League appearances, including 25 for the Newcastle Jets.
