Souths United have become just the second side to beat The Gap FC with a 2-1 win on Sunday afternoon.

The hosts got off to the perfect start with two goals in the opening 15 minutes before holding on after Ruth Blackburn cut the margin to one during the second half.

Deeanna Thompson opened the scoring after five minutes, benefiting from a deflected shot.

Six minutes later and Souths had some breathing space as Harriet Withers looped the ball over Noran Abaza.

The two-goal buffer remained until mid-way through the second half when Blackburn was found by Greta Bodey before finishing coolly, but that was as close as Gators came to stealing a point.

The game finished on a sour note with Souths’ Ambrosia Malone suffering a dislocated shoulder in the final stages.

The Gap now have a week off before a mouth-watering top-of-the-table clash with Peninsula Power.

Key Moments
