Words: Staff Writers

Brisbane Strikers have promoted Youth Men’s coach Sean Lane to the club’s Head Coach role for the PlayStation 4 National Premier Leagues 2017 season.

Lane becomes the fourth coach to take the helm in five seasons for Strikers, replacing 2016 Premiership winner Kevin A’herne-Evans in charge at Perry Park.

In addition to his responsibilities with the club’s Youth Men for the past two seasons, the 52-year-old Lane also served as an assistant to A’herne-Evans’ senior side.

The appointment marks Lane’s first foray into senior head coaching in two decades. His last similar position was at Preston Lions in the Victorian Premier League in the mid-nineties.

Lane’s club playing career including stints in his native United Kingdom with Hereford United and Derby County, before playing in the former National Soccer League with Preston.

A’herne-Evans, who departed Strikers for family reasons, has recently been confirmed as taking the reins at Sunshine Coast community club Noosa Lions for the 2017 season.
