Alex Janovsky will wear the captain’s armband for Moreton Bay United in their PlayStation 4 NPL Queensland campaign next year.

Janovsky, 25, will be only the second appointed Jets captain, taking over from inaugural club captain Royce Brownlie, who has moved to Jets catchment club Albany Creek Excelsior for next season.

Versatile midfielder Janovsky joined Jets last season and was a stand-out contributor despite the club failing to emulate the heights of their Premiership-Championship double winning 2015 season.

Janovsky said he was looking forward to the challenge of the role and returning Jets to the top of the pile in 2017.

“I was talking about players with (technical director) Adam Piddick and he said they wanted me to stay around. We then met up again and I was asked to be captain. It was an honour and a privilege to accept,” Janovsky explained of his appointment.

“I’ve not captained at senior level. I did in my teenage years. But for a while I was one of the youngest in squads. Now I’m an older player at Moreton Bay United.”

“It (captaincy) won’t change way I play. I’ll try to lead by example, but I did pick up tips from Royce last season, seeing how he dealt with the boys and coaching staff.”

Janovsky said several of his teammates are expected to also have leadership responsibilities in the team.

“There may be some changes within the squad next season and some cultural changes. There’ll be players in a leadership group, players like Matt Capelo and Matt Bryne.’’

Piddick said, despite carrying injury through the second half of the season, Janovsky demonstrated throughout his first PlayStation 4 National Premier Leagues campaign the attributes required to lead the team.

“Alex has won finals in the BPL and knows what it takes to be at the top,” said Piddick.

“He’s always worked hard, in matches and training and we’re hoping he can help take the team to the next level,” he concluded.
