PlayStation 4 National Premier Leagues fans in Queensland could be amongst the first in the country to see Tim Cahill in action for Melbourne City.

In a blockbuster announcement, City today officially confirmed the all-time Caltex Socceroos leading goal scorer has signed for the Hyundai A-League club for the next two seasons.

The Caltex Socceroos legend’s first appearances in ‘City blue’ could be in the Sunshine State, with City scheduled to face PlayStation 4 National Premier Leagues clubs Brisbane Strikers and Northern Fury in coming weeks.

Strikers were last night drawn against City in the Westfield FFA Cup Round of 16, while Fury confirmed in July a friendly in Townsville against the Hyundai A-League powerhouse.

Cahill’s move to the Hyundai A-League will see him become amongst the highest profile players to ever play in the national top tier – equalling previous marquee names like Alessandro Del Piero, Harry Kewell, Robbie Fowler and Dwight Yorke.

City’s squad for the upcoming Hyundai A-League season also includes last season’s Golden Boot winner Bruno Fornaroli, as well as Caltex Socceroos stars Ivan Franjic, Luke Brattan and Neil Kilkenny.

Fury Chairman Rabieh Krayem said the possibility of Cahill and his cohorts playing in Townsville is massive boost for local football fans in the state’s north, who have scant opportunity to see Caltex Socceroos players.

“Our understanding is that Melbourne City will bring their full squad, including all their marquee players, and hopefully that will include Tim Cahill,” Krayem said.

“It’s great for the region because a lot of our fans have never seen Tim Cahill play except on television.”

“Melbourne City will be here for eight days so hopefully it’s a great opportunity for Fury fans, Melbourne City fans and Socceroos fans to see Tim Cahill in action.”

Brisbane Strikers captain Michael Angus  is also looking forward to the potential drawing power of Cahill in their upcoming Westfield FFA Cup clash.

“It’s all about coming up against an A-League side and some of the big names in the league and Melbourne City and Tim Cahill are amongst the biggest names you can get,” Angus said.

“We’ll be hoping that he plays and it makes it all the more exciting for people to come out and watch the game.”

Confirmation of the date and time for Strikers match against City is expected from Football Federation Australia in coming days.
