FNQ Heat’s wait for a first Westfield FFA Cup Round of 32 victory continues after Edgeworth Eagles eased to a 3-0 win at Barlow Park on Wednesday night.

The visitors added two goals to their 1-0 half-time lead to spoil Heat’s first home match in the competition’s three years.

Edgeworth controlled much of the opening half hour and, after having a penalty appeal waved away, opened the scoring when Aaron McLoughlin reacted quickest to a Dylan Holz half-volley which came back off the post.

Despite a brighter start to the second half, Heat fell further behind in the final half hour as former Hyundai A-League star Daniel McBreen made it 2-0 with a clever near-post finish.

Eagles striker Brody Taylor added late polish to confirm his side’s passage and stamp Heat’s third straight exit at the Round of 32.

Key Moments

10’ – CHANCE FOR EAGLES – Domenico Bizzari gets around the outside on the right but pushes his sidefooted finish beyond the far post from a tough angle.

22’ – CHANCE FOR EAGLES – Heat ‘keeper Kevin Ward races off his line to smother a threatening ball over the top, before the follow-up volley flashes wide.

32’ – GOAL FOR EAGLES – Dylan Holz’s audacious, outside-of-the-boot half-volley comes back off the post and falls for McLoughlin to smash home at close range.

65’ – GOAL FOR EAGLES – Bren Abbot-Hammel delivers a perfect cross from the left for McBreen to get across his defender and poke home at the near post.

84’ – CHANCE FOR HEAT – Bronson Koppen connects with power from distance but his shot is the wrong side of the post.

86’ – GOAL FOR EAGLES – Heat are caught with numbers forward, allowing substitute Keigo Moriyasu to feed Brody Taylor for a cool finish.
