A spectacular overhead strike from Aaron Reardon proved decisive as Brisbane Roar Youth edged Olympic FC 1-0 at Cleveland Showgrounds.

Reardon struck approaching the quarter hour to secure his team's third straight win and maintained their unbeaten home record in PlayStation 4 National Premier Leagues this year.

However, Young Roar were forced to work for the win as they saw off a series of concerted raids from Olympic in the second stanza to notch their first ever league double over their capital city rivals.

The result ends a five match unbeaten run for Olympic and sees Young Roar edge them out of seventh in the league standings.

Key Moments

14' - GOAL FOR YOUNG ROAR – Olympic goalkeeper Nicholas Mooney punches away a free-kick from Jesse Daley but Aaron Reardon is on hand to meet it first time with a stunning overhead kick that nestles into the bottom corner

23’ – CHANCE FOR YOUNG ROAR - Dylan Wenzel-Halls weaves through a number of defenders and finds himself one-on-one with Mooney, but the keeper is quick to close the threat and saves

37’ – CHANCE FOR OLYMPIC - Daniel Byrne is played in behind Young Roar's defences but his final touch is too hard and Young Roar goalkeeper Andre Jannese closes him down

58’ – CHANCE FOR OLYMPIC - Ramone Close is found in the area from the right wing but his shot is smothered by Jannese

80’ – CHANCE FOR OLYMPIC – Jannese’s scrambled clearance only goes as far as Byrne, who seeks to capitalise but sends his shot into the side netting

83’ – CHANCE FOR YOUNG ROAR – Nicholas Panetta looks to capitalise on an open goal from long range but Olympic defender Shane Stefanutto hurries back to clear the ball off his own goal line.

What They Said

It was a fantastic goal and to be fair we probably should have had a few more. I thought we were good for the win tonight. The players who came in tonight were excellent and I’m really happy with how they're blending as a group.” – Josh McCloughan, Brisbane Roar FC Youth coach

"We went in the box enough, but it's just the way it goes. We've scored a lot of goals in the last four weeks but tonight was just one of those nights where we didn't put the ball away. I thought the Roar were very good. They closed us down and played very fast and in the first half we couldn't keep up it with, but we reversed that in the second half.” – Terry Kirkham, Olympic FC coach
