Brisbane City attacker Nicholas Buckley believes his new strike partnership with Carter Glockner has the potential to be “deadly”.

Buckley has been a surprise beneficiary of Glockner’s mid-season move to City as coach John Kosmina seeks to identify a prolific scoring combination following the departure of Antonio Murray.

The need for regular goals is a growing concern for City despite flying high in fourth place on the league table – the club boasting the worst return in front of goal of the teams firmly in the hunt for this Finals Series.

However, Buckley is confident that will change as he and Glockner re-establish an on-field bond forged as youth players at Olympic FC.

“I’ve known Carter for 4 to 5 years now, so we know each other pretty much inside out.” Buckley explained.

“It’s just getting the little intricacies between us and the midfield, and I think once we get that and we get the rhythm, we’ll be pretty potent.”

“We’ve both got a bit of pace, both got a finish and so we’ll be a bit deadly I’d like to think.”

Buckley embraced his new role at the top of the formation alongside Glockner against SWQ Thunder a fortnight ago – netting a match-winning brace to open his goal tally for the season.

He said that despite playing a number of positions for City he remains most comfortable at striker and is confident of holding on to the position for the remainder of the season.

“I’ve moved around a fair bit in terms of positions over the last two years, but my bread and butter has always been 'number 9'."

"I enjoy playing there because it’s a position that I know in and out.”

Buckley also acknowledged his milestone of notching his 50th PlaySTation 4 National Premier Leagues appearance for City against Thunder.

“It kind of catches up on you, but yes it feels good. I’ve been at the club for nine years since I was a junior, so these mementoes do mean something when the club means a lot to you,” he concluded.
