Redlands United are one step away from a maiden berth in the Westfield FFA Cup Round of 32 after defeating Brisbane City 1-0 at Corporate Travel Management Stadium.

In a typically tight cup tussle, the Red Devils ultimately advanced courtesy of a second half own goal when a Stephen Green cross deflected off City defender Greg King.

Redlands will host third-tier Flight Centre Premier League club Rochedale Rovers in the next round – with the winner advancing to the national stage of the competition.

The result ends City’s best ever return in the Westfield FFA Cup.

Key Moments

26’ - CHANCE FOR REDLANDS - Nicolas Bechar cuts back inside from the left and shoots high from outside the left hand side of the box, forcing Tim Allen to tip over the bar.

45’ - CHANCE FOR REDLANDS - Stephen Green plays in Alistair Davis down the right hand side, before crossing back to Green who skies the ball over the crossbar from inside the penalty area.

46’ - CHANCE FOR CITY - Scott Coulson chips an effort just under the cross bar from outside of the box, saved by Jonathon Burrows’ finger tips over the bar and out for a corner.

53’ - CHANCE FOR CITY - Kai Smith has a free header from inside the penalty area after Mitchell Hore swings in a free kick from the right, but misses to the right hand side of the post.

54’ - GOAL FOR REDLANDS - Green crosses low from the left hand side of the penalty area, which defects into the back of the net off Greg King for an own goal.

64’ - CHANCE FOR REDLANDS - Bechar picks up possession in midfield after a loose pass from City, and plays in Davis who flashes his shot across the face of goal.

72’ - CHANCE FOR CITY - Smith crosses from the right hand touchline to Antonio Murray in the box but he guides his cushioned free header narrowly over the crossbar.

90’ - CHANCE FOR CITY - Kai Smith meets a Jason Park corner from the right hand side at the near post with a diving header which just misses to the right hand side of the goal.

What They Said

“I think we defended better (than on Friday), tonight they set up a little differently than they did on Friday, but we still had good opportunities,” – John Kosmina, Brisbane City FC coach

“These sorts of games where you come away in the cup, you’ve got to have a bit of a strategy, which we did. We set up slightly differently to Friday, we played more of a 4-4-2 which I thought nullified (Brisbane City) well. Unfortunately it nullified the game slightly. We want to play entertaining football but we want to win too.” – Matt Chander, Redlands United FC coach
