Kristen Waters scored on debut to earn Olympic FC a much-needed 1-0 win over Sunshine Coast FC at Kawana Sports Precinct.

Waters poked Olympic into the lead just prior to half-time before forming part of the rearguard which held on for Terry Kirkham’s first victory in charge.

Fire enjoyed the better of the chances in the final half hour but failed to make the most of their opportunities in slipping to a fifth defeat of the season.

Olympic’s third victory of the season sees the Yeronga side close the gap on their ninth-placed hosts to just two points.

What They Said

“I think we were very, very unlucky not to get anything out of that game. In the second half the ball and all of the game was in (our) half of the field. We had quite a few chances and didn’t score them. If we had gotten a goal we would have gone on and won it.” – Sam Saif, Sunshine Coast FC coach.

“It was a good result and a fair result as well. At 1-0 we’ve left them in the game, we should have put chances away and we didn’t. But credit to our boys, they fought it out and we’ve done very well away from home.” – Terry Kirkham, Olympic FC coach.
