FNQ FC Heat struck twice on the counter-attack to see off a determined Brisbane Roar Youth 2-1 at Barlow Park and maintain their unbeaten start to the season.

Heat opened accounts early in the second half via Darcy McCormack before skipper Jamie Carroll doubled the lead shortly after with his sixth goal of the campaign.

Despite the heavy rain in the build-up, Young Roar’s passing game proved relatively unaffected by the soggy surface; however the visitors were ultimately left frustrated by a resolute Heat defensive effort despite pulling a goal back via Jayden Prasad midway through the second half.

The result sees Heat maintaining their lead atop the competition table – marking a third straight win and extending their unbeaten start to the season to seven games.

What They Said

“We knew that they would have the ball for big periods of this game. We knew we would have to be patient but we always thought we could catch them on the counter – and in the first half we did the job.“ – Tim Campbell ,FNQ FC Heat coach

“We were by far the better team this afternoon and to be fair the only thing that was missing was a couple of goals. That’s something we need to keep working on. But in context of the performance the boys controlled the game in every single way except for putting the ball in the back of the net.“ – Josh McCloughan, Brisbane Roar FC Youth captain
