Kaitlyn Winter netted a hat-trick as The Gap FC Women stormed to top of the table with a 9-0 hammering of Peninsula Power Women at A.J.Kelly Park.

Coming off a breakthrough win in their last start Power proved no match for the defending PlayStation 4 NPL Queensland Women’s Champions, who reclaim the league lead for the first time since the opening round.

Winter’s haul was complemented by a first-half brace to Eden Jones, while Bethany Ashton, Jessica Dillon, Megan Price and Ruth Blackburn also chimed in.

The win extends a perfect start to the season for Rob Askew’s side and furthers their competition record unbeaten run to 14 games since last year.

The win is also the Gators first at A.J.Kelly Park in PlayStation 4 National Premier Leagues competition after they were upset at the same venue in July last year – their last defeat in the competition.

What They Said

“This week at training we will focus on the positives we got out of the second forty five minutes. I’ve seen enough in this young group of players to know we will have a positive season.” – Michael Cook, Peninsula Power FC Women

“It was good to blow the cobwebs out. We hadn’t played in three weeks and it really did look like it. Even though it was 9-0, we had some serious fitness issues and our player will be better for the run.” – Rob Askew, The Gap FC Women coach
