A first half goal from Nicholas D’Agostino proved decisive for Brisbane Roar Youth as they saw off Western Pride 1-0 at Cleveland Showgrounds.

D’Agostino struck shortly before the half-time break for his fifth goal of the season in a match that offered few clear cut chances to either side.

The win is Young Roar’s second of the season and marks their first clean sheet of the campaign

It also puts paid to a two-match winning streak for Pride, who now drop to ninth on the league table, one spot behind Young Roar.

Key Moments

18’ – CHANCE FOR YOUNG ROAR - Clearing header from the Pride goes as far as Joseph Champness on the edge of the area who scuffs his first volley at goal but still forces a good save out of Pride goalkeeper Duncan Short.

35’ – CHANCE FOR YOUNG ROAR – Mark Rodic slices through the Pride defences before striking at goal but his shot cleared off the line and behind for a corner

39’ - GOAL FOR YOUNG ROAR – A series of one-touch passes leads to Mark Rodic releasing Nicholas D’Agostino into space before the striker thunders a dipping shot over Duncan Short into the top corner of the goal

43’ – CHANCE FOR YOUNG ROAR - Daniel Driver is given too much space and pulls the trigger from distance but sees his shot cannon off the post

56’ - CHANCE FOR PRIDE – Jaiden Walker clears Nielen Brown’s shot off the line after Roar keeper Andre Jannese comes off his line but can’t collect the ball.

What They Said

“The one thing I always look for from the boys is a response, and I really believe we got a response tonight. They’ve had a great week in training and I thought their performance tonight was very good. We were swarming in numbers and desperate to get the ball back and start again and I was really happy with that.” – Josh McCloughan, Brisbane Roar FC Youth coach

“I’d say it was okay performance but it’s a bit disappointing to not come away with something. The goal was a really quality finish and if you take that out of the game there’s a couple of half chances for each side and that’s about it.” - Graham Harvey, Western Pride FC coach
