City Net Nine In Pre-Season Win

Brisbane City FC

Words: Michael Flynn

Six players were on the scoresheet as Brisbane City eased to a comprehensive 9-0 win over Annerley FC in their first pre-season match of 2016 on Saturday.

Sharp-shooter Antonio Murray delivered a hat-trick before off-season recruit Samuel Sibatuara struck a brace, while Scot Coulson, Jason Park, Nathan Bird and Luka Pavlou also contributed with a goal apiece.

City dominated throughout against their Capital League Two opponent, who couldn’t contend with the pace and passing of John Kosmina’s team.

Murray commenced the inside the quarter hour turning in a cross from Sibatuara at the back post, before Coulson added a second with a mirror image from the other side after being found by Pavlou.

Only minutes later Murray all but wrapped up the win with City’s third - shaking free of a defender before converting a considered lobbed finish past the goalkeeper.

Further goals either side of half-time inflated the scoreline as former Bankstown City player Jason Park netted his first goal in City colours, while Murray wrapped up his hat-trick shortly after the restart.

A lurking Bird shared in the spoils shortly after the hour when he gained possession on the edge of the box, taking a touch before slotting a composed finish.

Sibatuara opened his tally midway through the second stanza when he benefitted from a Greg King cross, before fellow Brisbane Roar Youth product Pavlou added another just two minutes later after cutting inside his defender and curling in a solid finish.

The pace of Sibatuara continued to cause problems against the tiring Annerley defence as he wrapped up his brace, and the final result, in the final quarter hour.

Brisbane City continue their pre-season against Brisbane Premier League outfit Albany Creek Excelsior on Friday in the BLK Silver Boot tournament.
