Olympic FC coach Jim Bellas hopes his side’s first pre-season friendly will allow him to further gauge a raft of prospective players for his 2016 squad.

Olympic commence their pre-season against Brisbane Premier League powerhouse Lions FC on Tuesday – becoming the fifth PlayStation® 4 NPL Queensland club to test themselves in match conditions prior to Christmas.

However, Bellas sought to downplay the importance of the match ahead of what looms as the most competitive season of PlayStation 4 NPL Queensland yet.

“It’s just another training session really,” Bellas explained.

“We really just want to find out what sort of fitness levels we are at and what any new players can bring to our team.”

Olympic are yet to announce to any signings for the 2016 season, but Bellas said he was in no rush to match rival clubs who have been busily announcing their signings since the end of last season.

“We just want to have a good look at all the players before we start bragging and saying, ‘look at who we got’,” Bellas explained.

“Once we’ve signed them all up and everyone’s ready to rock and roll then we will tell everyone who we’ve got,” he concluded.

Bellas said he was confident of retaining a large number of players that guided the club to a third straight PlayStation 4 NPL Queensland Finals Series in 2015.

Olympic will enter a hectic schedule of pre-season football in the new year when they compete in both the Macron Cup and BLK Silver Boot pre-season tournaments.
