Brisbane Strikers have confirmed defensive stalwart Greig Henslee has recommitted to the club for the PlayStation® 4 NPL Queensland 2016 season.

The 32-year-old centre half returns for his second season with the club after being at the heart of the competition’s best defensive unit – allowing a miserly 25 goals during the PlayStation 4 NPL Queensland regular season and Finals Series and keeping nine clean sheets.

Henslee’s performances, including 3 goals in his 22 league appearances and star turns in the Westfield FFA Cup, saw him recognized as the club’s Supporters’ Player of the Season.

Strikers coach Kevin A’herne-Evans said that Henslee, who he previously coached at Sunshine Coast FC in PlayStation 4 NPL Queensland 2013, never fails to lead the defensive line by example.

“I’ve been fortunate enough to see him for the last four or five years and he just continually amazes me,” A’herne-Evans effused.

“If you look back at last season, what people don’t know is that he was actually injured for 14 weeks and unable to train properly but still managed to get through games and be as effective as he was.”

“Having a season where he’s fully fit and training every week, with a goalkeeper like Seb Usai behind him, to the dismay of many centre-forwards I can only see him having a better year.”

Henslee’s return delivers a much-needed constant for Strikers’ defences for next season with confirmation of two further defensive departures adding to an ever-growing list of personnel changes at the club.

The club has confirmed that Frenchman David Salin has opted to join Brisbane Premier League outfit Peninsula Power, while Cameron Draper has moved to Sydney due to work commitments.
