Three of PlayStation® 4 NPL Queensland’s  most successful clubs will contest the 2016 Macron Cup pre-season tournament, hosted by Peninsula Power.

Defending PlayStation 4 NPL Queensland Premiers and Champions Moreton Bay United will be joined by previous double winners Olympic FC and Gold Coast City FC in the tournament, with defending Brisbane Premier League Champions Power rounding out the four team competition.

Power's A.J.Kelly Park homeground in Redcliffe will play host to the competition over four weeks, commencing on January 23rd and concluding on February 13.

The competition has reduced the number of participating clubs from eight last season to four for the 2016 instalment, with the match schedule yet to be confirmed.

Peninsula Power President Craig Feuerriegel explained the reduction in participants was due to field availability and ensuring a high level of competition for all competing clubs.

“We had two pools of four last year but have now gone down to one pool to concentrate on the top teams,” he explained.

We all want good quality opposition. We always have new players coming into the teams and everyone wants to test them out against three other top level clubs,” he concluded.

Olympic and Gold Coast City will simultaneously contest the BLK Silver Boot pre-season tournament and are expected to field combined youth and men’s squads to balance their commitments to both competitions.

Olympic won the 2015 instalment of the Macron Cup, defeating Power 3-0 on the back of goals to Danny Byrne, Tim Smits and Costa Psaros.

Gold Coast City, under their then name of Palm Beach SC, were victorious in the 2014 edition - also defeating the hosts in the competition's decider.
