SWQ Thunder have added PlayStation® 4 NPL Queensland Premiership winning goalkeeper Luke Borean to their squad for the 2016 campaign.

The 25-year-old’s addition to the Toowoomba-based club was confirmed along with three other shot-stoppers who will round out Thunder’s goalkeeping stocks in the Youth Men’s and Under 18 divisions and serve as back-up to the first-choice Borean.

Borean becomes the fifth player confirmed for Thunder’s 2016 campaign and is the third recruit due to make his debut with the club next season.

He is expected to add steel to a notoriously porous Thunder defence that shipped 97 goals in the previous campaign; and boasts a total 40 PlayStation 4 NPL Queensland senior appearances to his credit for nine clean-sheets - the fifth highest return in the competition’s history.

He was a constant presence for PlayStation 4 NPL Queensland 2015 Premiers and Champions Moreton Bay United, and has previously played for Italian semi-professional outfit USC Colognese.

Borean said he was excited by the challenge of helping to lift two-time wooden-spooners Thunder up the table in 2016.

“Being a young team, I can offer some experience, and hopefully help the young team develop,” Borean said.

Thunder coach Chris McLeod said he has identified Borean as a leadership presence for his young backline that will include returning 2015 captain Keagan Sheridan.

“Luke’s addition, with his experience and quality as the cornerstone of our defence, will be invaluable,” McLeod explained.

“Not only will this be beneficial to the men’s team, but our three very good young keepers will learn immensely from someone of his quality,” McLeod concluded.

Borean will be joined by Jace Hudson, Jayden Formosa and Anthony Passante in the Thunder goalkeeping ranks.

Formosa made eight appearances for Thunder’s Senior Men in the 2015 campaign, while Hudson made 11 appearances for the club in 2014.

Club sources indicate that the trio’s match day roles in the Senior Men’s squad will be determined by form, fitness and workload in the youth age groups.
