He’s the youngest player in the PlayStation 4 NPL Queensland Under 23 All-Stars, but Sunshine Coast FC's Cameron Nairn won't take a backwards step against Brisbane Roar.

The PlayStation 4 NPL Queensland Under 23 All-Stars will face the three-time Hyundai A-League Champions this Saturday at QSAC in a curtain raiser to the PlayStation 4 National Premier Leagues Finals Series clash between Moreton Bay United and Edgeworth Eagles.

Nairn, a 17-year-old winger, made his senior team debut this year for the Fire and notched seven appearances before season’s end as well as staring in the club’s Under 18’s side.

However, despite rising prominently through the junior ranks at Fire, Nairn said his selection to the All-Stars team had trumped his previous football achievements.

“It’s a huge honour,” Nairn explained, “It’s the highlight of my career to date and to be the youngest in the team - I’m really proud of that.”

He added that despite his comparative lack of senior experience he won’t be overwhelmed by facing up to Roar’s stable of stars this weekend.

“We’re not going to sit back and try and sneak a 1-0 win. We are going to go out there and give the Roar a game,” Nairn said.

“We’re all under 23 in this team so there’s going to be lots of pace and energy amongst the team.”

Like his new teammates, Nairn’s ambition is to play at the highest level possible and he said the chance to shine before Brisbane Roar’s coaching staff was an opportunity he won’t let slip.

“A-League is proven to be a good pathway for a lot of young footballers in Australia and the chance to showcase myself on Saturday is massive.”

However, Nairn remains aware he still has plenty to learn before arriving in the national top tier, and being Sunshine Coast born and raised means he is happy to remain for another season with his local PlayStation 4 NPL Queensland club to further his development.

“I’ve really enjoyed the leap from youth football in the Under 18’s into the seniors this year.”

“The Under 18’s train together with the first team and I knew a lot of boys in the team so when I did come in it wasn’t too new and the players and coaches are really supportive," he concluded.
