The Brisbane Roar Westfield W-League team will ramp up preparations for their new campaign with a friendly against a PlayStation® 4 NPL Queensland Women’s Select squad later this month.

The match, which will highlight the very best of the state’s women’s football talent, will be held on Sunday, 27 September, at Goodwin Park (Olympic FC’s home ground), Yeronga. Kick-off is 3pm.

The game is another joint initiative between Brisbane Roar FC and Football Queensland.

It will be played just a week after the Roar’s Hyundai A-League squad take on the PlayStation® 4 NPL Queensland Under-23 All-Stars at QSAC at Nathan (Saturday, 26 September, 4.30pm kick-off).

Brisbane Roar Westfield W-League coach Belinda Wilson said the clash would not only give her new squad a solid pre-season workout, it also will give some of the state’s rising young players the opportunity to test themselves against the two-time Westfield W-League Champions.

“We have been rebuilding our squad in recent weeks after losing several experienced players in the off-season and this match will give us a good indication of how everyone is coming together,” Wilson said.

“It also gives any aspiring players the chance to show they are ready to step up to the next level.”

Technical Directors from each of the 11 participating PlayStation 4 NPL Queensland Women’s teams have been invited to submit players for consideration in the Select team.

The shortlist will be whittled down by Football Queensland State Technical Director David Abela and a selection panel, with a final squad to be announced soon.

Football Queensland Chief Operating Officer Graham Lee believes the match is the perfect way to cap the inaugural PlayStation 4 NPL Queensland Women’s season.

“We are firm believers in the future of the female game and are committed to providing a pathway to the top for all footballers in Queensland,” Lee said.

“The first year of the senior women’s competition has set an exciting standard which will continue to grow and complement the junior program.

“Many potential stars have already been unearthed and now get their chance to make an impression against the best.”

Entry to the match will be a gold coin donation for the Daniel Morcombe Foundation.

The Roar women open the new Westfield W-League season with a challenging home match against last year's Grand Final winners Canberra United FC on Sunday, 18 October (1pm kick off).

The game is part of a double header with the Roar's first home fixture of the Hyundai A-League season 2015/16 against Central Coast Mariners (4pm kick off).
