Greta Bodey rocketed ahead in the Golden Boot race as UQFC Women breezed to a record 15-0 demolition of Souths United Women at Wakerley Park on Thursday night.

Bodey fired in six goals against a largely youth-based Souths to go two clear of Palm Beach SC’s Deeanna Thompson with one match remaining.

The goal glut ensures UQFC remain an outside chance of claiming the premiership, should The Gap, Palm Beach SC and Eastern Suburbs all suffer improbable defeats in this weekend’s final round.

Following a 4-0 win over the same opposition just four days earlier, Alice Foster set UQFC on their way with an opener inside five minutes.

Katie Winter doubled the advantage five minutes later before Lulu Pullar took charge with a four-minute brace.

Bodey opened her account in between Pullar’s twin strikes and added another, UQFC’s sixth, prior to the 20-minute mark.

While the young Souths side managed to somewhat stem the flow, the visitors were still able to pile on three further goals before the break.

Foster added two more for her first PlayStation® 4 NPL Queensland hattrick while Winter also increased her tally as the score read 9-0 at half-time.

At that stage two shy of Thompson’s 25-goal total, 20-year-old Bodey took control of the second-half in pursuit of top spot on the scorers charts.

The attacker completed her treble shortly after the restart but had to wait until the final 20 minutes to make it four in a brighter period for Souths.

Substitute Portia Lee next netted her first while Winter became the third player to notch a hattrick either side of Bodey’s final two of the night.

UQFC are now assured of finishing no lower than fourth, which would likely mean a knockout home clash with fifth-placed Sunshine Coast in the first week of finals.

The league-record defeat relegates Souths United back to the foot of the ladder, though an upcoming pair of fixtures against fellow strugglers Moreton Bay United Women presents the chance for first points.
