Sunshine Coast FC Women surge towards finals football with an impressive 11-1 win over Moreton Bay United Women at Sunshine Coast Stadium on Sunday.

The result sees Fire move into forth after a dominating afternoon which saw six goals scored on either side of the break, while Jets wait a little longer to claim their first points of the season.

It didn’t take long for the hosts to open their account as both Kalya Moore and Samara Christmas found the back of the net in the opening 10 minutes.

Fire’s Danielle White made it 3-0 in the 24th minute when her shot cut through a crowded penalty box to find its mark.

Christmas continued to rack up her goal tally in the 36th minute shooting across the face of goal to score before White’s long range lob hit the post before nestling into the back of the net.

Jets weren’t without their chances as Sydney Holl struck the post with her effort before a corner awarded to the visitors resulted in an own goal from Fire’s Marcena Hunter.

Dynamic striker Sofie Persson struck twice within six minutes of the restart as Fire showed no signings of letting up on the attack.

Christmas doubled her spoils soon after to make it 9-1 before Brooke Matheson slotted home her second goal of the season.

Persson headed home Fire’s final goal with three minutes remaining as both she and Christmas now equal 21 goals apiece this season.

Speaking post match, Fire defender Els Vol Hooijdonk spoke about the home stretch for team mates in the run up to the finals.

“All the girls are really excited to go through to finals so I believe they are going to work really hard in training and make it happen,” Hooijdonk said.

Jets Technical Director Salvatore Sottile said he will focus on the development of his players in the final rounds as he looks towards a possible restructure for next year.

“To continue with development, continue girls football and understanding the level of this league which is very high.
