Redlands United Captain James Donnelly believes confidence and self-belief will help secure a victory over Sunshine Coast FC on Sunday.

A win at Sunshine Coast Stadium will help strengthen The Red Devils chances of a top four finish with a number of teams hot on their heel all vying for the same spot.

Fire quickly doused a comeback from Redlands when the two met earlier in the season, emerging with a 3-2 victory, however Donnelly is confident that history won’t repeat itself.

“We’ve just got this belief that even if we’re not winning in the first half and things may not be going our way, in the second half we’ll be able to finish with a win,” he said.

“Now we’ve got that boost of confidence behind us because we’ve done it so many times now that we believe we can beat anyone with the right attitude.”

Despite his side’s self-assuredness Donnelly warns that his men still need to be ready for anything regardless of Fire’s recent form.

“Results haven’t been going their way lately and they’ve had a bit of a shake up with two players been released earlier in the week in response to that,” said Donnelly.

“It doesn’t change the fact that they do have a lot of strong players. Their midfield can be particularly challenging at times and they will try to stop us playing through so we need to be prepared.”

Donnelly also commended Fire on giving their Under 18 players the opportunity to step up and help the club turn things around ahead of this weekend’s clash.

“That’s what this league is all about and it’s fantastic to see another club giving their Youth players the same opportunities that we do.”

“We got a lot of younger players who step up in training and games and it’s only going to benefit them in the long run.”

“They definitely don’t look out of place with the first team and they keep us on our toes for competition of places.”

"Fire will be looking for a fresh start and their younger players will want to secure a win so it should be a great match up," Donnelly concluded.
