Young PlayStation® 4 NPL Queensland stars have made their mark on the national stage with impressive performances at the recent Westfield National Youth Championships for Girls.

Both Queensland squads performed with distinction in Coffs Harbour, where Australia's brightest young talent gathered for the nationwide tournament.

The U13s won all four matches on the way to becoming national champions ahead of second-placed NSW Metro.

Pat Hedges, who stepped in for the unavailable Catherine Roncato, and Karyn Longbottom led the team to finishing three points clear in Group A, scoring 10 goals and conceding just three.

The U15s notched two victories from four under the tutelage of Bec Price and Brooke Spence as they finished third.

The team rounded out their week on a high with a 5-0 win against Tasmania.

Acknowledging there was still “a lot of work to be done” to reach the top in a technical sense, U13s coach Pat Hedges heaped praise on his victorious team’s effort.

“What Queensland has that I don’t think anyone else has is this incredible will to work harder than anybody else,” Hedges said.

“They really believe in themselves and they’re proud to wear the shirt. Their team unity was absolutely off the radar.

“I pointed them in the right direction, they went out there and did it.”
