Brisbane Strikers coach Kevin A’Herne-Evans insists his team can still claim the PlayStation® 4 NPL Queensland Premiership despite being held to a 0-0 draw by FNQ Heat on Saturday.

Strikers are locked in a three-way tussle with league leaders Moreton Bay United and third-placed Olympic FC as the season enters its run-in phase.

The two points dropped by Strikers could prove costly with Jets and Olympic both victorious on the weekend, but A’Herne-Evans refused to concede ground ahead of Saturday’s top-two clash at Wolter Park.

“I don’t think the championship’s gone at all,” A’Herne-Evans said.

“Obviously next weekend is a big game and we’ve got Olympic to play as well, but the competition is so even.

“There’s going to be points won that we probably shouldn’t have at some stage and Moreton Bay are going to drop points, and we’ll drop points.

“I’ve always said that if we can finish above Olympic we are more than likely going to win the competition. I still believe they (Olympic) have got some part to play in it as well.”

Strikers will enter the must-win Jets game two points behind their opponents having played one extra match, with A’Herne-Evans predicting a tremendous battle and a treat for football fans.

“They’ve got that little bit of a buffer on us now and going over there we know what the surface is going to be like,” he said.

“It will be a physical game and both teams are strong from set pieces, so it all bodes for a beauty next week.”
