Power Appoint New Women's Coach

Words: Matt Dorman

Peninsula Power have appointed former National Soccer League player Gary Ellis as their new PlayStation® 4 NPL Queensland Women’s coach.

Ellis replaces Alan Waller, who parted ways with Power last week.

Ellis previously ascended from youth to men’s football at the Kippa-Ring club before taking on a reserves role with Albany Creek Excelsior.

Power Women’s Technical Director Michael Cook thanked the outgoing Waller after he led the team to five wins in their inaugural PlayStation 4 NPL Queensland season.

“Firstly would like to thank Alan Waller for his efforts in guiding the team through the first half of the season,” Cook said.

“We also welcome Gary Ellis, who has taken over the team this week and his first match in charge is at home to Olympic FC this Saturday night.”

Prior to his coaching career, Ellis played under Socceroos legends Rale Rasic and Johnny Warren at Sydney outfit Blacktown City for several years in the then-national top-tier.

He takes charge on a positive note with Power last week dispatching Souths United Women 6-0 at Wakerley Park under interim coach Jamie Kirwan.

Saturday night’s Round 16 fixture is expected to be a tougher test as fourth-placed Olympic look to get back on track following a 2-0 home defeat to Eastern Suburbs.
