Brisbane City have strengthened their defensive options with the addition of fullback Adam Chandler from Redlands United.

The 21-year-old has been with the Red Devils’ since the inception of PlayStation® 4 NPL Queensland but makes the move to join an improving City side which notched three straight wins before falling to Brisbane Strikers.

City coach Darron Heselden was delighted to capture Chandler, who could debut away to Brisbane Roar Youth this weekend.

“I think he’s an exciting signing as he fits in with my philosophy of bringing in players that want to be part of the long-term future plans at Brisbane City,” Heselden said.

“He is well balanced and looks very comfortable on the ball with the ability to play anywhere across the back line.

“Depending on how much time we get on the training track to integrate him he may be included in the matchday squad for Sunday.”

Chandler previously played as a junior with English club Wycombe Wanderers and New Zealand’s Hawkes Bay United, before developing as a youth at the Queensland Academy of Sport.

Heselden hopes the new acquisition will have a part to play for years to come.

“When I told Adam of my plans to make City the club that attracted the best young talent around Brisbane and provide them opportunities to push on to A-League clubs he bought in straight away,” the City boss said.

“Our junior program is very strong and we need good young talent now so that in three years’ time they will be ready to provide the experience for our very talented junior players coming into our senior program.”
