Is Turnbull A Keeper?

STR Michael Turnbull

Words: Michael Flynn

Brisbane Strikers goalkeeper Michael Turnbull may be in line for another final - but only if he stays on the sidelines.

The former Olyroos representative has been confirmed by independent media outlets as a contestant on reality television programme The Bachelorette, which is due to air on Network Ten later this year.

The surprise appearance comes after Turnbull was part of Melbourne Victory’s Hyundai A-League Grand Final success as an injury replacement player for first-choice Victory shot-stopper Nathan Coe.

It is reported that filming for the programme is currently underway in Sydney, explaining Turnbull’s recent absence from Strikers in both PlayStation® 4 NPL Queensland and Westfield FFA Cup matches.

Turnbull has been a pivotal contributor to Strikers since linking up with the club midway through the 2014 season - earning the mantle of first-choice goalkeeper as Strikers reached the Westfield FFA Cup Round of 16 and the PlayStation 4 NPL Queensland Finals Series.

However, 18-year-old understudy Michael Weier has excelled in Turnbull’s absence since late April and now appears likely to maintain his place in the starting eleven in upcoming rounds.
