Olympic Announce Quinn Capture

Alistair Quinn

Words: Matt Dorman

Olympic FC has announced the signing of former Young Socceroos fullback Alistair Quinn from Dutch club SC Telstar.

Quinn spent over a year in the Netherlands, originally joining Eredivise outfit NAC Breda in 2014 before gaining further professional experience in the second-tier Eerste Divisie.

The 22-year-old has returned to Brisbane following the expiry of his contract last month and had no hesitation in joining Olympic despite garnering interest elsewhere.

"I talked to a couple of other clubs but for now Olympic was the perfect fit for me," Quinn said.

"They’re doing really well this season obviously. That was important – to go to a team that was winning, that has a good winning vibe about it.

"It wasn’t a difficult decision."

Quinn, who won selection in the PlayStation 4 NPL Queensland Supporters XI in 2013 with Brisbane Strikers, came through the Queensland Academy of Sport before Foxtel National Youth League stints with Brisbane Roar and Western Sydney Wanderers.

The law student now hopes to use his time at Goodwin Park as a launching pad to earn a Hyundai A-League contract.

"Playing professionally is something I’ve always wanted to do and I’m really glad I stuck at it and made that happen," he said.

"Now it’s time to kick on. I’m hoping to get an A-League opportunity.

"If not then I will see out the season with Olympic and take it from there."

Though a wait on international transfer clearance has scuppered a potential debut against Young Roar, Quinn hopes to soon help turn Olympic’s fine recent results into end-of-season silverware.

"That’s the goal. We’re towards the top of the table at the moment so we’re definitely hoping to stay there and finish at the summit," Quinn said.

Meanwhile, Olympic also announced the departures of defender Nick Efstathis and forward Rhys Meredith.

Efstathis joined the Yeronga club for its inaugural PlayStation 4 NPL Queensland campaign while Meredith arrived midway through last term.
