Sunshine Coast junior goalkeeper Josh Wall is the latest Fire player to win representative recognition with a call-up to an Australian U17 National Team training camp.

Wall has appeared regularly in helping Fire’s U16 Boys to fifth-place and his form has been rewarded with an invitation to join the camp in Canberra.

The 16-year-old is one of 13 players from three countries to be named in the squad.

“I’m really excited to be given such a great opportunity and I’m looking forward to being able to test myself against such skilled players,” Wall said.

The training camp, which takes place from 16 to 19 June at the Australian Institute of Sport, is in preparation for the 2015 FIFA U-17 World Cup in Chile.

His latest call-up puts Wall well and truly in the frame to win selection in Tony Vidmar’s final 21-player squad for the October tournament.

Sunshine Coast U16s coach Justin Mayes was thrilled to hear that Josh had been invited to train with the U17 National Team.

“Josh consistently performs well, works hard behind the scenes and his technical abilities shine through. It’s nice to see him be rewarded for his efforts,” Mayes said.

“Josh is a natural leader, something I believe any goalkeeper must possess to achieve at the highest level and I’m sure he will be one to look out for in the future.”

Australia qualified for the 2015 FIFA U17 World Cup as a result of reaching the semi-finals at last year’s AFC U-16 Championship.

Earlier this month, Fire Women trio Samara Christmas, Sofie Persson and Danielle White were all invited to join Brisbane Roar for a six-week training stint.
