UQFC Women Win Late

Words: Matt Dorman

Greta Bodey netted a 90th minute winner as UQFC Women snatched a 3-2 victory over Peninsula Power Women at A.J. Kelly Park on Sunday.

The visitors twice surrendered leads before Bodey’s final intervention secured their top-four place.

Alice Foster earlier opened the scoring for UQFC with her first of the season in the 13th minute, putting Wayne Gibbon’s side on track for a second straight win.

Free-scoring striker Melissa Limov soon hit back to level matters though and spark hopes of Power improving on their 2-1 loss in the same fixture in March.

The contest remained even until livewire midfielder Georgia Chapman restored UQFC’s lead with just over 20 minutes remaining.

Chapman’s effort looked to be the match-winner until the final five minutes of normal time, when Limov converted from the spot to make it 2-2.

However, the decisive goal arrived in the closing moments as 19-year-old forward Bodey scored to settle the see-sawing affair.

The result was enough to keep UQFC in fourth while depriving Power of a chance to close the gap on the sixth-placed Sunshine Coast Women.
