Olympic FC Women moved within a point of top spot in defeating Moreton Bay United Women 10-0 at Wolter Park on Saturday night.

The visitors maintained their record as the league’s stingiest defence while a notching a double-figure victory of 2015.

The scoring began inside 10 minutes as Allira Toby crossed low for fellow attacker Jazmyn Perin to tap in from close range.

Lizzy Doherty soon crashed a shot against the crossbar, but Olympic got their second in the 20th minute when Ai Matsuzaki shot home against the underside of the same bar.

It was 3-0 five minutes later, Perin doubling her tally with a sidefoot finish from a byline cutback.

Doherty got her goal to make it 4-0 inside the first 30 minutes with time and space to fire into the top corner.

Jets goalkeeper Renee Rudder was called on to limit the damage before the break and made a fine pair of saves after it to keep out Perin and Toby in quick succession.

However, Toby was able to beat the former Newcastle Jets shot-stopper in the 52nd minute and it was 6-0 just after the hour as Japanese striker Miho Sugisawa etched her name on the scoresheet.

Two goals in eight minutes from the in-form Jessica McLean made it 8-0, Olympic’s second-best effort in front of goal this year, before Doherty added another with a top-corner effort.

With two minutes remaining, Sugisawa crossed for Amber Maxwell to complete the scoring for either side.

Speaking after the match, goalkeeper Rudder was hopeful spirits would remain high in the Jets camp.

“Obviously everyone has seen the scoreline over the season so we don’t take it to heart too hard. We look to the next game and try to keep positive,” Rudder said.

Olympic coach Phil Canham was as pleased with his team’s diligence at the back as their goalscoring.

“Defensively we tried to make sure there were no opportunities and I think we did a pretty good job of that,” Canham said.
