Pride Have Bird In Hand

Mitchell Bird

Words: Michael Flynn

Western Pride have secured the services of former Redlands United player Mitchell Bird for the remainder of the PlayStation® 4 NPL Queensland season.

Bird, who is based in Ipswich and played last season with community club Ipswich Knights in Football Brisbane’s third-tier Trophy Superstore Premier League, parted ways with the Redlands United by mutual consent in recent weeks.

The fleet-footed 20-year-old impressed early in his first PlayStation 4 NPL Queensland campaign, scoring twice in his seven senior appearances.

Bird also scored twice for the Red Devils’ Youth Men’s team in five appearances in that division.

Pride coach Karl Dodd confirmed that Bird will be part of his squad that travels to Toowoomba to face last-placed SWQ Thunder this weekend.

Pride are without a win in their past four games but go into the match as favourites against a Thunder side that is still searching for their first ever PlayStation 4 NPL Queensland win.

In a late change of venue, the match has been moved to Commonwealth Oval with Clive Berghofer Stadium still yet to fully recover from previously reported damage to the playing surface.
