Brisbane Strikers joined forces with Palm Beach SC as part of the “Score For Daniel Day” initiative that raised funds for the Daniel Morecombe Foundation.

The initiative, organized by Football Gold Coast and supported by Football Queensland, saw all Gold Coast community clubs donate a nominated amount for every goal scored.

Palm Beach extended their donations to also include goals scored by their PlayStation® 4 NPL Queensland teams, and Strikers took the opportunity to also contribute to the cause.

Strikers boosted the fund after scoring four goals across their Senior Men’s and Under 18 Boys fixtures at Mallawa Complex on Saturday.

Strikers Chairman Bruce Atterton-Evans (pictured, right, with Sharks President Peter Williamson) said it was a “no-brainer” for Strikers to lend their support to the cause.

“Brisbane Strikers have always been a club with a strong link to children’s charities through our former Chairman, Dr Clem Jones, who was a huge contributor and organiser of initiatives to benefit children,” Atterton-Evans explained.

“That commitment to young people carries over in the Brisbane Strikers football club of today, which remains passionately committed to Dr Jones’ vision of providing opportunities for young Queenslanders.

“So, when we heard Palm Beach were supporting the Score for Daniel Day on the occasion for our visit, we asked if they’d mind if we did likewise.  Of course, the answer was that they were delighted.”

The Daniel Morecombe Foundation was established by parents Bruce and Denise Morcombe in 2005 after their son Daniel was abducted and murdered in December 2003 while waiting to catch a bus on the Sunshine Coast.

The Foundation serves as a lasting legacy to Daniel and now has two main aims - to educate children on how to stay safe in a physical and online environment, and to support young victims of crime.
