The league-leading UQFC Women moved two points clear at the top with an 8-0 demolition of Western Pride Women at Briggs Road Complex on Sunday.

Amy Chapman scored three to give UQFC breathing space over Eastern Suburbs Women in possibly her final match for the club.

It was another Chapman, Georgia, who opened the scoring in the 7^th minute with a powerful strike that caused a stoppage for net repairs.

Pride managed to hold out for a further 15 minutes before Kaitlyn Winter notched the first of a hattrick, followed shortly after by Greta Bodey making it 3-0 on the half hour mark.

Having earlier had a penalty saved by Pride ‘keeper Chantelle Dow, Amy Chapman sprung into scoring action with a pair of tidy finishes before the break.

Winter and Chapman continued to score freely after the restart, the former sealing her treble with two goals in the space of four minutes just past the hour before Chapman secured a hattrick of her own.

Pride managed to see out a scoreless last 20 minutes despite losing Dow to injury as the Ipswich outfit now sit eighth heading into the Easter break.

Victory strengthened UQFC’s grip on first, though the second-placed Easts have a game in hand.

Speaking after the match, Pride assistant coach Meshelle Ryan felt the scoreline failed to reflect the contest.

“With a few more shots we could have got back into the game before half time but luck was on their side and it’s a disappointing result,” Ryan said.

UQFC Coach Wayne Gibbon described the first 45 minutes as his side at its peak.

“The first half was probably the best half of football we have played all season and probably that I have seen them play full stop,” Gibbon said.
