Lucky Thirteen For Gators

Words: Matt Dorman

The Gap Women have made their strongest statement of the season with a 13-0 demolition of Souths United Women at Wakerley Park on Sunday.

Ruth Blackburn, Leah Curtis and Suzanna Roeger all ran riot with hattricks while Bethany Ashton and Gabe Marzano both grabbed braces.

The floodgates were open early with the prolific Ashton scoring twice in the opening moments, both courtesy of Marzano assists.

Ashton soon turned provider for Curtis to make it 3-0 before Marzano grabbed two consecutive goals.

Souths were unable to prevent further damage as the scoreline blew out to 10-0 at half time with two each for Roeger and Blackburn and another for Curtis, who completed an overwhelming first-half with a well-taken lob.

While the damage was done, the hosts were more competitive after the break and restricted the visitors to only a further three goals.

Blackburn was first to complete her treble while Curtis and Roeger followed suit to cap the scoring at a lucky thirteen for Gators.
