The league-leading Eastern Suburbs Women retained top spot with a 4-0 win over Moreton Bay United Women at Wolter Park on Sunday.

Two goals in each half were enough to down a competitive Jets side, thanks in large part to another brace from Tegan Riding.

The visitors seemed set for a free-scoring afternoon as Harkana Dixon opened the scoring in the sixth minute, turning home after Ashlee Watkins’ cross was initially parried by Renee Rudder.

Jets ‘keeper Rudder was called upon again midway through the first half for an impressive double save, but couldn’t keep Riding from making it 2-0 after bursting into the area.

Suzanne McKeen almost added another before the break but the post ensured Jets remained in the contest at half time.

Lorna Dent’s Jets managed to keep Easts quiet for much of the second half but eventually the pressure told, with Jamee Wolf firing a right-footed shot past Rudder to make it 3-0 in the 73rd minute.

The scoring was completed five minutes later as Riding completed her double with a quality solo goal, beating two challenges and unleashing into the near top corner.

While defeat extended Jets’ losses the 4-0 scoreline marked a continued decrease in deficit, evoking praise from coach Lorna Dent.

“We worked really hard, created some opportunities and put pressure on them and I think Easts were a little bit surprised by us today,” Dent said.

While pleased with the result, Easts coach Garrath McPherson felt more was possible.

“I was satisfied with the result, maybe not so much the process today,” McPherson said.
