Football Queensland (FQ) and PlayStation® 4 NPL Queensland clubs are working together to provide improved education opportunities for local coaches.

FQ State Technical Director David Abela led the first in a series of workshops with Brisbane Strikers last week, proving a hit with a strong turnout at Meakin Park.

Aimed at community clubs lying within the catchment areas of their PlayStation 4 NPL Queensland counterparts, the workshops provide education on how best to organise training sessions.

Strikers Technical Director David Large hailed the evening as a success.

“From our point of view it was really good to see around 30 coaches there getting the benefits of good coach education,” Large said.

“I was really pleased to see that our community clubs supported it and we trust they got something out of it.”

Part of the role of Technical Directors at PlayStation 4 NPL Queensland clubs is to work directly with their region’s community clubs for the overall benefit of juniors.

Large, formerly Strikers’ Head Coach, acknowledged a responsibility to provide opportunities for coaches to improve.

“While PlayStation 4 NPL Queensland clubs must have coaches who possess mandatory coaching qualifications, it’s not possible for all of the community clubs to do so,” he said.

“So we need to do our bit to help broaden and improve the coaching knowledge and skills of the coaches at our community clubs.

“If we can do that we will help to improve the standard of football education across the board, not just within our own PlayStation 4 NPL Queensland clubs.”
