The Gap FC Women returned to winnings ways with a 3-1 victory over UQFC Women at Walton Bridge Reserve on Sunday.

With both sides considered genuine title contenders it was The Gap that started the match with a flurry - scoring twice inside the opening half hour.

Victoria Stephenson opened the scoring on 22 minutes before turning provider for Suzie Roeger to double the advantage three minutes later.

The previously undefeated UQFC started the second half strongly and only minutes after the restart were back to within a single goal courtesy of Katie Winter.

However, the Gators replied almost instantly through Beth Ashton, who pounced on a rebound following a strongly struck free-kick from Summer O’Brien.

Both sides struck the post in the closing stages of the contest but ultimately proved unable to make a further dent on the scoreline.

The Gap FC Women  3 (Victoria STEPHENSON 22’, Suzie ROEGER 25’, Beth ASHTON 65’)
University of QLD FC Women  1 (Katie WINTER 48’)
