Melissa Limov delivered four goals as Peninsula Power Women consigned Souths United Women to a 8-0 mauling at AJ Kelly Park on Saturday night.

Limov (nee Feuerriegel) missed the early rounds of the season due to her recent marriage, however proved up to task to net twice in each half, adding to a first half brace from Brieanna Watt and further goals to Sam Harrington and Brittany Whitfield for the hosts.

Despite some uneven opening exchanges from both sides, Power effectively dominated the contest from the outset to consign Souths to their third straight defeat of the season.

Limov opened the scoring eleven minutes after being played in behind the Souths line and finished past the onrushing goalkeeper.

Watt doubled the advantage six minutes later after delivering a well-placed header from Whitfield’s cross.

Watt added her second and Power’s third just after the half hour after Limov won possession in the centre of the pitch, feeding her teammate who delivered an assured finish beneath the advancing goalkeeper.

She returned the favour for Limov only minutes later for a four goal half-time buffer - Limov controlling well with her chest from Watt’s cross before slotting home the finish.

Power had to wait until the hour mark to again trouble the scorers when Harrington was teed up on thirty yards by Whitfield and delivered a spectacular rifled finish.

Three further goals in three minutes then sealed the eight goal win, with Limov adding to more and Whitefield, who had a hand in the majority of the previous goals playing in the ‘number 9’ role, deservedly added her name to the score sheet.

The three point return is Power’s second of the season following an opening round away win against Western Pride.

Despite the unflattering scoreline, Souths Technical Director Paul Lonton said his side remains a work in progress and hard work will ultimately have its rewards.

“We’ve worked on a few things this week that until the disruptions came along worked quite well. So we’ll keep progressing and see how we go,” he said.
