A brace from Brieanna Watt guided Peninsula Power Women to a 4-1 defeat of Western Pride Women on Sunday night at Briggs Road Complex.

Watt struck a goal in each half with additional contributions from Nathalie Browne and Brittany Whitfield rounding out the visitors impressive haul.

Pride’s lone goal came early in the second half courtesy of player-coach Lorena Maggio.

Peninsula started the contest strongly and opened the accounts inside 20 minutes with Watt’s first of the match. Browne then doubled the advantage prior to the break.

Despite the two-goal deficit, Pride returned the stronger in the second half - adding an extra player to the top of the formation - and soon halved the deficit via Maggio.

Pride remained in the contest before succumbing to two further Power goals in the final ten minutes of the match.

Speaking after the match, Maggio said there were positives to take out of the game.

“Despite the result I think we got stuck in and played some really good football in patches. We created some good chances but unfortunately couldn’t finish when the time came.”

Power coach Alan Waller explained his half-time talk centred around responding to the opposition’s tactics.

“We just made them aware of what they were trying to do to us and if we could shut that down then we should be able to get away with it comfortably,” Waller said.
