Souths Crash To Lightning In Friendly

Words: Michael Flynn

Souths United Women went down 2-0 to Logan Lightning Women in a pre-season friendly at Wakerley Park on Sunday afternoon.

Goals to Tiarne Petterwood and Laikyn Walker did the damage for Lightning in the hot conditions as both sides sought to prepare for their respective league seasons.

Petterwood opened the scoring after 11 minutes - the Lightning striker finishing off a sweeping team build-up that began at right fullback.

The contest proved an arm wrestle through much of the first half before Lightning increasingly took control of the match in the second half.

The visitors ultimately sealed the win in the final minutes with Walker poking home amidst a goal-mouth scramble from a Lightning corner.

The hit-out was Souths final pre-season match before they open their inaugural PlayStation® 4 NPL Queensland campaign against Olympic FC at Wakerley Park this Sunday.

Souths United FC Women  0
Logan Lightning FC Women  2 (Tiarne PETTERWOOD 11’, Laikyn WALKER 89’)
