Pride Blitz Shoots Down ACE

Words: Michael Flynn

Western Pride delivered an impressive 4-1 win against Albany Creek Excelsior in their final BLK Silver Boot match at Lions FC Stadium on Friday night.

Pride took a single goal advantage into half-time before a five minute blitzkrieg midway through the second half delivered a further three goals to seal the win.

An attacking start to the contest saw both sides spurn early chances before Joel Haack pounced prior to the half hour to open accounts.

Shaun Core started the second half scoring spree after the hour with a neat turn and close range finish for his first goal of the pre-season campaign.

Joe Duckworth added a quickfire brace to extend his pre-season tally to six goals, finishing the first from just inside the area and the second ahead of onrushing Excelsior goalkeeper Christian Smith.

Excelsior pulled a goal back from the penalty spot with 15 minutes remaining via Sasa Radulovic.

Harrison Sawyer again proved a danger for Pride in the attacking third but was unable to round out his night with a goal after his late penalty strike was saved by Smith.

The win is Pride’s fourth from six pre-season fixtures and continues the team’s rejuvenation under head coach Karl Dodd.

Albany Creek Excelsior FC  1 (Sasa RADULOVIC 75’p)
Western Pride FC  4 (Joel HAACK 24’, Shaun CORE 66’, Joe DUCKWORTH 69’ 71’)
