Goalkeeper Renee Rudder is swapping one set of Jets for another, with the Newcastle Jets W-League goalkeeper confirmed as Moreton Bay United’s latest recruit for 2015.

A 23-year-old former Queensland youth representative, Rudder won the National Championships with the state’s Under 17 side in 2008.

She spent four years in the United States college system with Avila University in Kansas before getting her shot in the Westfield W-League south of the border.

Jets coach Lorna Dent said despite her youth Rudder will provide invaluable experience in Jets’ first PlayStation® 4 NPL Queensland Open Women’s campaign.

“Renee has experience of being in a professional team and is bringing that to our training,” said Jets coach Lorna Dent.

“She’s had quality coaching and quality players around her. With that experience she leads from the back, which will be good for us.”

Rudder conceded that other club were in the hunt for her signature but that local knowledge won out in the end.

“It’s an exciting opportunity,” said Rudder, “I also knew some of the coaches at the club and Moreton Bay United is closer to home for me."

“We’ve only been training a few weeks and there’s a long way to go. We’re building a team, but I think things are looking good."

“I’ll help where ever I can. I’ll give advice and tips to some less experienced players if I think it will help. We’re all in this together.”

Dent added that Rudder will be a key piece in a Jets’ squad that is still taking shape for the 2015 campaign.

“It’s a long process which we’re putting together in a short time, but it’s coming together,” said Dent.

“We’re starting from scratch, so we can start a culture here as well.”

“We have a really good mix of experience and exciting young players coming through from the youth. There’s a really good atmosphere and I’m looking forward to it.”

Dent added that Moreton Bay United remains interested in expressions of interest from players wishing to join the club.

Jets’ first match of the inaugural PlayStation 4 NPL Queensland season is away to UQFC on February 15.
