Redlands United fell 1-0 to Lions FC in their first pre-season match of 2015 at Cleveland Showgrounds on Saturday afternoon.

A 39th minute goal from Andrew Butler proved decisive for Lions as the usually breezy bayside setting offered little respite to the sweltering conditions.

Lions, who have recruited strongly for their upcoming Brisbane Premier League campaign, saw plenty of chances early in the contest - sending several shots over the cross bar prior to the opening goal.

Redlands fielded several of their new signings for the clash including Matt Lyell and Joel Stone (pictured).

However, the hosts best opportunities didn't come until the second stanza.

Mitch Bird was unable to beat the goalkeeper with his 49th minute attempt, while Elliot Ronto slipped smartly past a pair of defenders with 15 minutes remaining but was unable to deliver the finish.

Redlands continue their pre-season campaign against fellow PlayStation® 4 NPL Queensland club Western Pride in the BLK Silver Boot tournament next Friday night at Lions FC Stadium.
