Redlands United has announced two signings ahead of the 2015 PlayStation 4 NPL Queensland season  – one local and the other from interstate.

Left-back Matthew Lyell, 31, joins the Red Devils from Football Brisbane community club Wolves FC, while midfielder Joel Stone, 21, has made the move to the Sunshine State from Tasmanian Victory League outfit Devonport City Strikers.

Redlands coach Matt Chandler touted the attack-minded Stone as a player to keep an eye on in 2015.

“He’s a bit of an untapped talent really and could prove to be a dark horse next season,” said Chandler.

Stone explained he was excited by the opportunities that will open up for him while playing in Queensland.

“I’m definitely looking forward of playing my first season up here with Redlands. It’s a new league with more people and I can’t wait to see what the quality of football is like,” Stone said.

“Redlands are a great club and have very similar philosophies to the Devonport Strikers. They play as a team with a mixture of senior and younger players and keep the club as a whole,” added Stone.

Chandler also said he expected the experienced Lyell to add further surety to the Redlands backline as they seek to qualify for their first ever PlayStation 4 NPL Queensland Finals.

“He’s a great player with a good instinct and his experience will be a welcome addition to what is a talented yet reasonably young defensive line,” Chandler said.

Lyell said he was undaunted by moving up a tier after excelling in the Brisbane Premier League with Wolves.

“It’s going to be a new challenge for me and I’ll be playing against different players and playing styles that I’ll have to adjust to but I’m excited to have the chance,” said Lyell.

“Redlands is moving in a positive direction with their development mentality. There are a lot of young lads here and as an older player I hope that I can set a good example for them both on and off the field,” he concluded.

The newest signings take the number of confirmed players for Redlands 2015 squad to fourteen with further announcements expected in the coming weeks.
