Olympic FC's inaugural PlayStation 4 NPL Queensland Senior Women's team will play their home games at Goodwin Park in 2015, the club has confirmed.

Last year the team were hosted by community club Annerley FC throughout the South East Queensland Women’s Premier League campaign but will move their matches to Olympic FC’s home ground in Yeronga for 2015.

Olympic Senior Women’s coach Phil Canham hopes the buzz of playing at Goodwin Park will inspire his side to an inaugural PlayStation 4 NPL Queensland championship.

“We want to win the league,” Canham said.

“With the stand behind us, with the pitch in the condition it is, with the way the club looks after the girls and treats them as players, they’re all really excited to be playing here.”

Canham will lead the team for a second season running after registering a top-half finish in 2014.

He believes the introduction of Senior and Youth Women divisions to the PlayStation 4 NPL Queensland system will strengthen the elite player pathway for female footballers.

“It will be good to hopefully continue what we’ve been doing for the last couple of years,” he said.

“Now we’ve got a structure that can really underpin what we’re trying to do with development.

“We’ve obviously got that senior end which I’m looking after but having the foundations set with our U13s, U15s and now Youth, what we’re going to find is we have depth, not just talent.”

The club has also confirmed several members of the squad that will compete for the first ever PlayStation 4 NPL Queensland title next season.

While some players have departed for non-footballing reasons, the squad is bolstered by the signing of Far North Queensland talent Matalena Daniells and injury-free duo Amber Maxwell and Jess McLean.

Also aiding the title bid will be SEQ Women’s Premier League Player of the Year Liz Doherty as the Tamworth product combines her playing duties with a role as coach of the U13 Girls.

“Even more exciting for me with Liz is she knows she can improve,” Canham said.

“Obviously she was flattered to win the award but she is the first to admit she can improve and she works so hard to do it.”

Olympic FC’s Senior Women have already returned to training ahead of next season but will take a short break over the festive period, before returning to the paddock prior to the new year.
